Connected, but alone?
I use my phone a lot and rely on it heavily. When I do not
have access to my phone unexpectedly, I generally do feel panicked, anxious,
and alone. I agree with Sherry Turkle’s assertion that always being connected
via mobile technology leaves us more isolated. We are constantly seeking connection
because mobile technology has given us a way to never be alone, although we are
more alone because we are not having real human conversations, just superficial
connections. My reason for agreeing is that I rely on my mobile device in times
of loneliness.
I second this. I'm terrible at texting, and part of this is because I can't help but feel that these conversations are superficial.
